1890-1900 HISTORY
The Golf Club was founded in 1896. After the Hallett house burned down Sept 5, 1905, the Golf Club became the locus for dances and other social events. Yet even in 1896, according to Paul Herrick, the roads were still unpaved, bot and cold running water was not available- bathing was done primarily in the ocean,There were three bathhouses on east beach, and several more on West Beach. Four windmills operated to pump water into tanks, then water was gravity fed into the hotels or houses. Light was supplied by kerosine lanterns or candles.
